Course concept
The Koala birth school was founded over 20 years ago – and it has been continuously evolving ever since. After each course, participants complete surveys: what was valuable, what was missing, and what could be improved. Over two decades, we’ve gathered feedback from more than 20,000 couples. It’s thanks to their voices that we’ve created the program we offer today.
The program is not built around a single method or one way of giving birth. We prepare you for childbirth as an experience – regardless of where and how you choose to give birth. With this knowledge, you can make informed decisions about the hospital, location, support people, and birth method that are right for you.
The course includes 18 hours of classes spread across three sessions for couples and 3 hours of exercise classes for mothers.
Learning outcome
Many couples come to us with different concerns – what will happen, how they will cope, whether they’ll have enough time to prepare. They leave with something that participants often describe in one word: calm.
Childbirth doesn’t become more predictable, but parents know how to respond when things don’t go as planned. They have practiced techniques that help, and they feel they’re not alone in this experience.
You’ll know when to go to the hospital
You’ll know how to tell the difference between different types of contractions, what to do when your water breaks, and what to pack in your hospital bag – because you’ll pack it together with us during the course.
You’ll have your own birth plan
Thoughtful and tailored to you. We go through different options so you’re prepared for any scenario that may unfold.
You’ll know how to manage pain
Massage, breathing techniques, active positions – you’ll practice them together with your partner and discover which ones work best for you.
The postpartum period won’t take you by surprise
You’ll know what’s a normal part of recovery and when it’s worth consulting a specialist.
Your partner knows their role
They have clear tasks during childbirth and in the first weeks with the baby. They know how to step into fatherhood.
You’ll have materials you can always come back to
You receive them from the very first classes. Many participants return to them long after giving birth.
Our approach
Small groups
Each couple has room to ask questions. The instructor knows your name and your due date.
Lots of
hands-on practice
You practice with a doll, a mannequin, and various props. Your hands will remember what can’t be learned from reading alone.
Experts
Classes are led by experienced practitioners with many years of hands-on experience.
For example:
The program also includes an overview of Cracow maternity hospitals, because knowing the place where you give birth is part of your preparation. At the end of the course, you pack your hospital bag – together with us, on site, step by step.
Program
The course includes eight thematic modules. Each one is led by a specialist who works with that topic every day – in their practice, during childbirth, and in their work with families.

Dobrochna Łątka-Kosowan
Midwife
Dobrochna obtained her midwifery degree at the Jagiellonian University. She gained her first experience working with pregnant women during practical training in Kraków hospitals, and it was then that she discovered midwifery was her calling. Today, at Koala, she leads classes on recognising labour and natural childbirth.

Natalia Nieużyła
Midwife
I obtained a diploma in medical studies at the Jagiellonian University.
I connect the beginnings of my professional career with the Koala Maternity Center, where I taught childbirth classes, worked in a lactation clinic and took care of families in the first weeks after the birth of a child during patronage visits. I supported women of various nationalities, also providing care in English.
However, my heart took me outside Krakow and currently I work as a family midwife in Chorzów, taking care of local parents. In the meantime, I obtained the title of Family Nursing Specialist and Certified Lactation Consultant. In Koala you will meet me during weekends of antenatal classes in English.
